The Older Toddler rooms work with children between the ages of two and three. These students continue to strengthen their skills of independence especially in verbal and social development. They are encouraged to interact with friends and communicate with their words. The students use circle time to reinforce shapes, colors, counting and the alphabet. The Older Toddler classrooms operate using a daily schedule which includes: sensory experiences, art projects, fine and gross motor activities, Jesus time, prayers and Bible words, story time, outdoor and gym time, music and songs, lunch, snack time and naptime. The One in Christ Curriculum is used as a guide for classroom activities. Toilet training and independent skills are a large portion of the daily curriculum as well. Children learn from each other as they interact with their friends. This socialization is very important for this age level as they strengthen communication skills, sense of community and friendships. The nurturing and dedicated staff in the Older Toddler rooms works to strengthen the child care and family bonds at Our Shepherd.
